Sculpture in Context Opening Ceremony
Botanical Gardens Gig: 4th September - 17th October 08
The Sculpture in Context exhibition celebrated its seventh year in 2008 at the magnificent setting of the National Botanic Gardens. This unique sculpture exhibition showcased Ireland’s finest sculptures by leading Irish and international artists.
Marie Keane and Joyce Dunne exhibited the 'Tree of Doors' a collaberative piece that celebrated the Oak Tree as part of Irish Pagan Heritage. A song was written for the work and performed at the base of the tree by Marie on the opening night in full druid costume. Key words of the song were woven out of river weeds in the fashion of the St. Brigit's Cross and attached to the Oak Tree.
The scene was aptly illuminated by the setting September sun reaching through the trees as the song was performed. The 'Tree of Doors' was exhibited from September 4th until October 17th.
